The 1994-95 season was arguably the greatest one in the history of Blackburn Rovers FC. Shearer and Co were outstanding for Blackburn as they embarked on a great run in the league which saw the side win the league title, clear of Manchester United by four points. Shearer once again finished the season off as the top goal scorer and Dalglish led the club to winning the league title. Many players were in outstanding form including their goal keeper Tim Flowers and players like Chris Sutton, Mike Newell, Kevin Gallacher and Stuart Ripley.
Blackburn were unlucky in the league cup, crashing out of the competition in the last sixteen, losing 3-1 to Liverpool.
The 1995-96 campaign was another decent one for the blue and Whites, however they could not reach the heights that they had done in the previous seasons. Shearer was injured for part of the campaign however many players were in outstanding form including Jason Wilcox and Flowers. Dalglish left the managerial post and Ray Harford stepped in as manager. Blackburn finished the season off in a very creditable seventh place. They were most unfortunate to be knocked out of the league cup in the last sixteen, narrowly losing 2-1 against Leeds United.
The 1996-97 season was Gary Flitcroft's first full season at Blackburn however the start of the campaign witnessed the departure of their star striker, Alan Shearer as he left the club to play for Newcastle, signing for a British record fee of £15 million. Blackburn finished the season off in 13th place. However the 97-98 season witnessed an upturn in Blackburn’s fortunes as the club reached sixth place in the top flight. They crashed out of the FA Cup in the fifth round losing against West Ham United on penalties.
